FAQs
What is Contouring?
This is our artisanal touch in controlling the way our eyes perceive the smile, through the sculpture of new silhouettes and reflective contours in either composite, porcelain and also the outline of the gums, transformative results are achieved with minimally invasive principles. If the desired smile requires larger changes, more teeth to be involved or the underlying teeth have been previously treated, then exploring the use of Porcelain to contour the teeth is often more suitable.
What is Porcelain?
Porcelain, in most of our cases Lithium Disilicate (e.max), remains the material most closely resembling natural enamel in both appearance and strength with its fully crystalline molecular structure without resin. Truly bespoke and individually crafted layer by layer by our artisan ceramist.
How long do Porcelain Veneers last?
The longevity of porcelain restorations depends significantly on how well they are maintained, much like natural teeth. With a meticulously planned approach, expertly crafted porcelain, and a harmonious bite that complements natural chewing movements, porcelain can last over 15 years. On front teeth, when applied as thin veneers, porcelain typically offers an aesthetic lifespan of 10–15 years.
How do I maintain Porcelain?
Maintain porcelain restorations with an electric toothbrush and interdental cleaning twice a day. Avoid using your front teeth as tools, such as for tearing packets or cracking nuts, to prevent surface fractures. While porcelain surfaces are durable and require minimal maintenance, the spaces between teeth can accumulate stains similar to natural teeth. Professional hygiene sessions with our Dental Hygienist will help you keep on top of their health and appearance.
Am I suitable for Porcelain Veneers?
During our dedicated 1-hour consultations, we carefully assess your suitability and explore all treatment options. In many instances, porcelain veneers are the gold standard whilst being minimally invasive with our techniques. Your dental health is at the centre of our care and to contour with porcelain veneers requires broader factors such as desired outcomes, maintenance expectations, timelines, and your dental health to determine if this is right for you.
When are Composites more suitable?
Contemporary composite resins have now advanced beyond cavity restoration to now reshape and refine anterior teeth without removing natural and healthy enamel. Composed of 75–80% glass and ceramic particles, the resin component is a matrix that acts as a scaffold, bonding these materials for strength, durability, and high aesthetics. For many teeth that are previously untreated and well-aligned, more subtle changes are best crafted in the additive process of using Composites.
